Information on the Country
Ecuador
is the smallest of the Andean countries, the total land extension
of 276840 km2. The diversity of regions: coast, mountain, jungle
and Galapagos- each with special attractions, makes this country
most captivating to travel. It is crossed by the equator or equinoctial
line, which gives it the name; has the highest active volcano in
the world: the Cotopaxi, and also has various national parks and
natural reserves providing the opportunity to see a great variety
of mammals, birds, reptiles insects and more. It is a plurietnic
and pluricultural country.
Ecuador has 12.000.000 inhabitants, the official languages are Spanish
and quechua and the predominant religion is catholic. It has a democratic
government, the president being elected by popular vote. The monetary
unit is the american us dollar.
All visitors need valid passports.
ECUADOR
Ecuador is located on the center of the world, with its own regions
and characteristics:
Coast, Mountains, Jungle (or Oriente) and Galapagos.
Quito, the capital of Ecuador, is located in the interandean corridor,
with two distinct areas: the colonial quarter, with its narrow streets,
antique architecture houses and wooden balconies, interior patios
full of flowers; the nights are full of mystery stories of legends
and traditions; churches and convents with sculptures and paintings
full of art and history. the northern part of the city shows a modern
metropoli with banks and first order services.
In the Mountain corridor there are other cities with their own characteristics
such as: Tulcan in the north of Ecuador, bordering Colombia; Ibarra,
the city of the Lakes, surrounded by beautiful lakes and an atmosphere
of peace ; Latacunga at the feet of the imposing Cotopaxi; Ambato
the city of flowers and fruits; Riobamba at the colossal Chimborazo
snow mountain; Guaranda with beautiful landscapes and green mountains;
Cuenca- city of arts and culture; Loja in the south peaceful and
friendly.
The Coast with its principal cities: Guayaquil, first port of Ecuador;
Esmeraldas, Manta, Babahoyo, Machala; with warm climate, beautiful
beaches and friendly and extroverted people.
The Jungle or Oriente with its cities: Puyo, Tena, Macas, Zamora,
Nueva Loja; green land full of mysterious jungle and exotic animals.
Galapagos and the inhabited islands: San Cristobal, Santa Cruz,
Isabela and Floreana with its unique flora and fauna make a visit
to this paradise and experience hard to forget.
